2 ) 1984 by George Orwell.
Written in 1948, George Orwell paints a dystopian future almost half a century ahead with such perfection and complexity that calling it mind-boggling would be an understatement.
The gripping and vivid narrative along with the deeply disturbing yet almost perfect society setting makes for an extraordinary read.
Safe to say that this book has changed my perspective of the world.
Before you think that I’m exaggerating, just read the book once.
3) The Tin Drum
This novel is a great reflection of the role of the common people in the surge and development of fascism, and their self-imposed blindness to see the aftermath during the post-war. Grass manages to write a masterpiece with the most horrible and bizarre narrator he could have imagined - but the “Tin Drum” is beautifully written. The chapter in which he describes the events of the Kristallnacht, are, in my opinion, one of the most sublime and moving passages ever written.
